Bill, 69, started smoking later in life at the age of 40. Unaware that he was making a lifelong decision he would come to regret, Bill accepted a cigarette from a friend at his 40th birthday party and continued to smoke from then on. Bill expressed with conviction that his actions on his 40th birthday were “absolutely crazy” and would not have accepted that cigarette if given the choice again.
Before Bill became smoke free, he would smoke between 30 – 40 cigarettes a day. Before long, Bill’s habit was seriously starting to negatively impact his health, so much so that he couldn’t even walk his dog without stopping to catch his breath every couple of minutes. Bill said:
“I walk my dog three times a day and it was getting increasingly difficult. I would cough all the time and need to stop every 100 yards to catch my breath. Then when I got home I’d have to sit down for 10 minutes just to recover.”
Bill knew he had to take action in order to protect his health. He made the life changing decision to give us a call for expert support and was promptly put in contact with one of our top health improvement practitioners, Lynne.
Lynne provided Bill with specialised, one-to-one ongoing support, offering encouragement and understanding of the nicotine addiction process. Together they developed a personalised quit plan that included a quit date, strategies to cope with cravings, withdrawal symptoms, how to manage triggers, and much, much more…
To further assist Bill with his quit attempt, Lynne talked through all the nicotine replacement products available. Of all the options Bill decided to quit smoking by switching to vaping. In the past, he admitted that nothing came close to helping him win this battle, and he admitted, he was of the mind that he would be smoking for the rest of his life. Then he tried vaping and was blown away. Remarkably, without even realising it, he was done with cigarettes. Bill said:
“I thought I would never be able to quit smoking until I tried vaping. It was perfect for me. It took care of the habit side of smoking. I can be around my friends who still smoke and not even think about smoking.”
Soon after switching to vaping, Bill could feel his health improving. Bill said:
“After just three weeks I could do my daily dog walks again with no problems. I’m even walking into town now, something that I would never normally do. I feel like a new person, I feel like I used to feel before I started smoking. The effects of not smoking are far better than I ever thought they would be. I feel like a new man! I’m coming up to 70 but I don’t feel it at all. Smoking was robbing me of my money and my health. I never expected to feel this well, it’s like I’ve got my get up and go back!”
“Starting smoking is the worst decision you could ever make. Stopping smoking is the best decision you’ll make.”
“I’ve saved over £500 since I stopped smoking. It’s crazy how much I was spending. No one would take £500 and light it with a match but that’s what I was doing. I was spending around £80 a week on cigarettes and that’s completely nuts. With the money I’ve saved I have been able to redecorate four rooms in my house. I would never have been able to afford that if I were still smoking.”
It’s clear that quitting smoking is one of the best decisions Bill has ever made. It’s had immediate and long-term benefits, not just on his health and wealth but in his overall quality of life.
